I was moved by this family's story. I do not actually know Layla or her family. I am overcome with the urge to reach out, to comfort, to let them know somehow that they are not alone.
My friend Candace is organizing a quilt. She is asking for people to contribute 7.5" x 7.5" blocks. Anything goes... embroidery, pieced blocks, written messages, applique. If this speaks to your heart and you would like to contribute please contact Candace : http://cottoncandiefabric.blogspot.com/

whirlygig on the design wall
I've made good progress on the whirlygig quilt. I have about 12 more blocks to do. I love having up on the design wall so I can see how everything is looking. I'm excited to keep going and fill in those gaps. I'll be making a few extra blocks for the back.

Whirligig Block
I am so excited to learn this block. I came across this tutorial from Turtle Hill Quilter and Cathy made it look so easy I had to try it right away. Whirligigs have been at the top of my list for awhile now.
I had these 5" scraps left over from another project. I trimmed them and pieced them and ta-da... a whirligig! This was such a fun block to do. My 4 year old wants a whirligig quilt so we will be picking out fabrics together. I can't wait to get started.
