Notice anything wrong with exhibit a ? The U looks like a U, but what about the line underneath? Warning! Warning! Template trouble!!
Last night I was happily working on my single girl quilt. This pattern has no less than 31 templates. I traced all of my pieces and set it aside to cut out today. In the light of morning I noticed that something was not right. I traced a handful of templates upside down!! Luckily I noticed this before I cut my fabric, but still. Arggggh!
I went outside, got some fresh air, checked on the garden...
Deep breath. Ok, now I'm ready to try again.
How do I avoid this in the future? Either stop tracing templates at night while watching tv... or place a small dot in the top left of each template. When you lay your template down to trace if the dot is not on the left it's not the right way.
I wrote (TOP) on each of my templates when I traced them. Glad you got the plan. I still haven't traced all of mine, so no guaranty that my plan will work.
ReplyDeleteThat is a smart way to do things but still frustrating when mistakes happen and they do and they will continue to happen, at least in my world it does.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe there are 31 (!!!!) templates. It would be impossible Not to make a mistake somewhere along the line. Eek!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Templates work really well for certain patterns, so it is good to have a strategy.
ReplyDeletePaper templates, freezer paper....pinning...not im my vocabulary ; )
ReplyDeleteLooks like Spring is in the air on your neck of the woods. :-)
ReplyDeleteI also added a marker~ I did an arrow in the top right side to help me keeps things straight. Glad you noticed your mistake before all of the cutting!
ReplyDeletegreat idea. glad you caught it when you did.
ReplyDeletegreat tip - I had the same problem with some of mine!
ReplyDeleteI heard some people complaining that one of their pieces didn't fit right so I betcha this is what happened to them. Glad you caught it!
ReplyDeletelove the solution! but was the real problem - you were working after 7:30 pm???? ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! I put the dot as you mentioned on my curved background templates, also. When I placed my curved plastic template over the pattern, it was perfect...but if I flipped the template backwards it was off! I marked the dot on my cut piece, too! Really helped, thanks again! :)
ReplyDeleteNow you just need to beware of placing the template back to front when cutting the pieces !!
ReplyDeleteI did this just the one time ... had to recut .
So glad I picked up on it in time :-)
I only cut for 12 blocks & it felt like forever .... happy cutting !!
great idea and thanks so much for sharing. cheers, shannon www.buttonmad.com
ReplyDeletei have to be really careful if i do anything while watching TV. my mind can't pay attention to 2 things at once.
ReplyDeletebest wishes with recutting!
