Some of you have noticed a shift in my sewing lately. There has been a lot more of it! I've made some big changes in my quilting life. The biggest change is after two years, I am no longer the president of the Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild. It was someone else's turn to steer the ship for awhile and so far I'm having fun being *just* a participant. : )
Color is really rocking my world lately. I can't get enough playing with color! This combination reminds me of the moody Santa Cruz coastline in winter. I bought the fabric back in July, after putting together this mood board. It's finally time to cut into that fabric!!
My local fabric shop has free sew nights and I brought my fabric with me on Friday. I spent most of the time cutting 2.5" strips. It was a lot of cutting. A lot. Thank goodness for Dr. Pepper and drive throughs, right guys? ; )
Now I've been working on putting strips sets together and playing with the layout.
The plan is to make a Scrap Vomit Quilt, but with a limited color palette. The name might surprise you if you haven't already seen Katy's quilts. The blocks don't look like much on their own, but I'm excited to watch it come together. So far I really love the scrappy look of it. The hit of tomato red gives it a little zing. The fabrics are a mix of Cameo by Amy Butler, Birds and Bees by Tula Pink and a little Art Gallery too.
This is brilliant ... love that colour mix xx
ReplyDeleteWe do love our blues and greens Lorraine!! xx
DeleteOooh, I'm loving those blues mixed with a bit of goldish-yellow. I made some of the scrap vomit blocks - gotta get back to it so I'll have enough for a quilt one of these days soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jodi! When you made the scrap vomit blocks, did you strip piece them or use individual squares?
Deletegood for you Adrianne!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl! Lucky for me we have a great crew this year!! : D
DeleteI like it... You were worried about the contrast with the yellows but it looks great to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie. I was worried! When I look at it at night, I can barely tell the difference between those two solids. In the daylight, it looks so much better.
DeleteLove it, looks fab.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorelei!! : )
DeleteI love the colors you picked, it looks like a combination of of a scrappy trip around the world and great granny square! I pinned the tute, thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a great granny square! I didn't see that before. I think you'll like making this one. : )
DeleteOooh, love this!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lee! : )
DeleteLooks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily!! : )
DeleteI love it! The pop of red is super, and I love quilts that remind me of the ocean. You're all about color, I'm all about black and white right now!
ReplyDeleteBlack and white?! This I've got to see!! : )
DeleteI love working with color too- and scrappy is so much fun. Your limited palette is restful but energized, and I think that's a great way to feel. :D
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie!! Restful and energized is a great mood to be in! In other news, I'm making another circle quilt using your tutorial. : D
